Nicole- I think that Dan doesn't tell Lauri that he wasn't sure that they should remove fresh from the river because he didn't want to hurt Lauri's feelings and he wanted to just see how it works.
I think that he wouldn't tell because he didn't want to hurt his feelings.If I was Dan I would not want to let Lauri down but I would want to let Fresh go.
Dan didn't tell Laurie because he thought he dreamed it but when he woke up he saw he boots were drying then he knew that he did it but he didn't want to tell him that he did it because he didn't want to tell Laurie that he knocked out Fresh.
He didn't tell Lauri because Dan didn't want to hurt Lauri's feelings. Dan also didn't tell Lauri because it would have been Lauri's first fresh water Mussel. I think that was thoughtful of Dan to not want to hurt Lauri's feelings. I know this because you could tell that Dan had strong feelings for Lauri and Fresh because he wanted to protect them.-Adam Meyer

I agree with Ausan, because Dan probably wanted Laurie to be happy but wanted to tell his idea as well.

Nicole is right. Fresh should be in his own place. Dan was trying to tell Laurie that, but didn't want to hurt Laurie's feelings.
